The marine relationship between Denmark and India is still growing, as both countries collaborate closely to promote sustainable maritime practices. The India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership has led to an expansion of cooperation in several important domains, including shipbuilding, green shipping, quality shipping, research and development, maritime education and training, piracy, and green marine technologies.

A specific phrase for the creation of a Center of Excellence (CoE) in India has been included, expanding the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed in 2019 and updated in 2022. This demonstrates the dedication to expanding knowledge in green maritime technology and promoting information sharing between the two countries.

Furthermore, Denmark’s know-how in cybersecurity, automation, and digitalization of ports has been crucial in assisting India in realizing its goal of leading the world in smart ports.

Both nations are concentrating on decarbonization initiatives, working together on projects to create ship fuels based on ammonia and hydrogen. India hopes to decarbonize its ports through the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, and Danish offshore wind energy success should help Indian ports adopt more renewable energy sources. Opportunities for cooperation are also presented by Denmark’s expertise in polar navigation and maritime training, with intentions to modernize Indian seafarer training programs to meet international standards.

The two nations want to maintain their cooperation in the areas of port modernization, maritime digitalization, green fuel development, and advanced seafarer training as part of the Joint Action Plan on Green Strategic Partnership (2021–2026). This relationship has the potential to propel global innovation and sustainability in the maritime sector, given Denmark’s expertise in green marine technologies and India’s expanding maritime infrastructure.
