30% of global ports unprepared for the IMO maritime single window legislation

A new study suggests nearly a third of ports worldwide are unprepared to adopt the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) maritime single window (MSW) mandate which becomes compulsory on January 1 next year.

As from the start of 2024 every port is now mandated to have a single window system for digital information exchange between stakeholders on arrival, stay and departure of vessels.

However, a survey by Kale Logistics Solutions involving 200 ports found 30% are not ready to meet impending electronic data exchange regulations

“The purpose of this study was to identify the tangible benefits the maritime industry can achieve with technology intervention, and the results showed potential savings of up to $50bn annually by using MSW platforms,” said Vineet Malhotra, co-founder of Kale Logistics Solutions.
