The Thai military government says it will lend 4.5 billion baht (Ks185 billion) to Myanmar to build a two-lane road linking Dawei Special Economic Zone in Tanintharyi Region with Thailand.
Myanmar and Thailand are both estimating the road’s cost.
Khin Maung Lwin, assistant secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, said: “Myanmar and Thailand are closely cooperating in the implementation of the road project to Dawei SEZ. A joint cooperation committee and the high-ranking official committee were formed. A vice-president leads the official committee.”
Khin Maung Lwi said: “The minister for commerce steers the cooperation committee, which met in Thailand during July. Some areas of the route are steep. Both sides are calculating exactly how much money will be spent.”
“The Ministry of Construction will have to take loans from Thailand so it will have to prevent a detailed calculation then submit the loan proposal to Parliament. Thailand’s loan has been agreed in principle. The loan programme will include a suspension period and reasonable interest rate,” the assistant secretary added
