Paradip Port added another feather to its cap by successfully docking MV Mineral Honshu, a Capesize vessel carrying 1,17,983 MMT of steam coal, at the Central Quay (CQ) – 1 on November 24, 2017. The vessel had loaded the cargo for importer NTPC at Richards Bay Port, South Africa, for discharge at Paradip.
An official statement described it as a matter of great pride for the port since the first Capesize vessel had docked in the Inner Harbour a mere 18 days ago. Mr Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) felicitated the Captain and crew members of the vessel in the presence of Mr N. Vaiyapuri, Deputy Chairman, Mr S. K. Mishra, Traffic Manger (I/c), Mr A. K. Mohapatra, Harbour Master and other senior officials of the Traffic Department.
Paradip Port is now gearing up to handle Capesize vessels regularly inside the harbour, with the aim of enhancing throughput as it is vying for the coveted top position in the country with a slew of infrastructure development and modernisation initiatives.
