Colombo port is consolidating its position as the leading transhipment facility in the region, handling 16.4 per cent more containers in January 2018, at 564,155 TEUs, compared to the same period last year.

This was driven by strong growth in transhipment volumes, which increased by 20.4 per cent to 436,303 TEUs.

Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), operated by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and among the three terminals at Colombo port, increased its transhipment volumes by an impressive 43.7 per cent to 164,252 TEUs.

Besides, the port received 332 containerships in January, up 9.2 per cent. It comprises the JCT, the South Asia Gateway Terminal and the Colombo International Container Terminal.
