The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), Chennai has commenced movement of Direct Port Delivery (DPD) and Direct Port Entry (DPE) between CONCOR HOM Annexe (Chennai Port) and CONCOR Tondiarpet (TNPM). The inaugural train, carrying 62 DPD containers, was flagged off by Mr P. Raveendran, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, and Mr N. Sreekumar, CFTM, Southern Railway, on March 28, 2018 in the presence of the CGM and GGM of CONCOR/Southern Region and other senior Chennai Port and Southern Railway officials.

CONCOR proposes to run regular DPD/DPE trains between CONCOR HOM and CONCOR TNPM. The trains will carry DPD/other import containers for delivery/clearance at TNPM and, in the reverse direction, DPE/other export cleared containers.

CONCOR has a MoU with Chennai Port for setting up an Extended Gate Common-User Facility at TNPM for decongesting the roads by improving the rail coefficient, thereby reducing the time taken for movement of containers into and out of Chennai Port terminals. Chennai Customs has notified a dedicated area to handle DPD/DPE containers at TNPM.

The exim trade fraternity is being encouraged to avail this facility, which enables swift movement of import/export containers to and from Chennai Port in the shortest time at economical cost.
