Navayuga Container Terminal (NCT) reached an important milestone on March 27, 2019, by handling 500,000teus for the first time in a financial year. The half-millionth teu was handled on the vessel M.V. SSL Kutch.
NCT has witnessed stellar almost 9-fold increase in the 5-year period starting from a modest 58,577teus in 2013-14.
Commenting on the development, Mr Anil Yendluri, Director & CEO, Krishnapatnam Port Co. Ltd, said, “NCT has taken giant strides in getting established as a transshipment hub on the East Coast of India and we are working towards making it the hub port in the Bay of Bengal.”
Mr Jithendra Nimmagadda, Chief Operating Officer, NCT, commented “Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without the strong partnerships forged with shipping lines wherein by working together we assure the speed, transparency and fluidity our shippers have come to expect from NCT.” He added, “We are further expanding our terminal capacity from 1.2 million teus to 2 million teus by the end of 2019 to be ahead of the demand.”
2018-19 marked several developments at Navayuga Container Terminal:
* 5 new e-RTGs getting commissioned
* Increase in yard capacity to 5,000 ground slots
* Reefer points were increased to 200
* Development of 30 acres of off-dock stuffing and de-stuffing zone close to the container terminal
* Permission to handle unshredded scrap imports
Commenting on this milestone, Ms Vinita Venkatesh, Director (Marketing), NCT, said “This milestone paves the way to achieve 1 million TEUs in the near future by providing customer-centric services”.
