INAUGURATION OF SWACHHTA HI SEVA CAMPAIGN

The Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign was inaugurated at the Mormugao Port. The function began with the lighting of the traditional lamp at the hands of the Chairman Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar, IAS, the Dy. Chairman Shri Guruprasad Rai, and Heads of Department and other dignitaries.  The Swachhta Hi Seva pledge was administered in Hindi by Smt. Vidya Sawant Sr. PS to Chairman, and in English by Shri G.M. Gadkar AXEN (Vig). A power point presentation was given to highlight the Ministry’s guidelines for observing the SHS campaign and bringing about awareness in society on the single use plastics.

The Chairman Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar in his brief address, exhorted all present to take the initiative to bring about an awareness in society to stop the use of ‘single use plastic’ in their day to day life. He said, that there is a need to move out in the streets and take action in bringing about an awareness on the cleanliness in the surroundings and as well as the stoppage of use of single use plastic which is harmful for the environment.  ‘Even if we conduct a limited activity, the message should go out loud and clear to the society. Everyone should do their bit to create awareness against the use of single use plastics. We should first start off with an initiative to make the Administrative Office Building plastic free. Our activity should give us tangible results. Whatever we do we should do with dedication and should be proud of our contribution and achievement’ said Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar.

The Chairman further advised the senior officers and staff to commence the cleanliness drive from their own premises and offices.  Accordingly, department wise cleanliness drive was chalked out to be conducted with the involvement of all officers and employees of the port. The Chairman also expressed his desire to be part of the drive. The Chairman also revealed his ambitious plan that every employee of the port will department wise plant one tree sapling each,  totaling to about 1647 saplings within the port area. All the preparations for plantation are ready to undertake the drive.
