July 12, 2020: Minister Niranjan Reddy says a food SEZ in 400 to 1,000 acres will be set up in every district

Agriculture Minister, S Niranjan Reddy stated that ground was being prepared to establish food processing units in every constituency in the State. Besides a food processing unit in every Assembly constituency, a food SEZ (special economic zone) in 400 to 1,000 acres will be established in every district, he said.

Niranjan Reddy along with BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, laid foundation stone for construction of Rythu Vedikas in Renigunta of Thimmapur mandal and Velichala of Ramadugu mandal on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Reddy said though only a few States were producing all variety of crops on par with the State, Telangana has every opportunity to attract the international market.

That is why, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been giving top priority for agriculture sector and allocating more funds during the last six years, he noted.

Variety of crops will be cultivated in 1.6 crore acres in both Vaanakalam and Yasangi seasons once all projects are completed. So, the government has decided to motivate farmers to cultivate crops which have more demand in the international market. It will be implemented through Rythu Vedikas, he said.

Talking about Rythu Vedikas, the Minister said except farmers, workers of all fields have had unions. Vedikas (platforms) will provide an opportunity for farmers to express their opinions. Crop marketing, techniques in cultivation, usage of fertilizer and success stories of farmers would also be explained to other farmers through these Vedikas. No government in the world has taken this kind of initiative to unite farmers. It is being materialised only because of the Chief Minister of Telangana.

It is common to store water by constructing a bund across a river. However, taking water in reverse direction is unique. Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao has done it by lifting water to highest place by constructing Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project it the State.
