September 15, 2020: Fourteen coastal economic zones (CEZs) have been identified under the Sagarmala programme, and they include the South Konkan CEZ, which will cover North and South Goa, besides Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra.
Disclosing this in a written reply to BJP’s Dr Vinay Sahaasrabuddhe in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Minister of State for Shipping, Mansukh Mandaviya, said the South Konkan CEZ will be serviced by three ports – Mormugao, Dighi and Jaigarh.
Another North Konkan CEZ, which will have the potential districts of Mumbai, Nashik, Thane, Pune and Raigarh will be serviced by JNPT, Mumbai.
Three CEZs are proposed in Gujarat Kachchh serviced by Kandla and Mundra ports, Saurashtra covering Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Junagarh and Amreli districts serviced by Pipavav and Sikka ports and Suryapur covering Bharuch, Surat, Navsari and Valsad districts to be services by Dahej and Hazira ports, the minister said.
He said since the CEZs are still at the concept stage, the question of the FDI (foreign direct investment) inflow is not relevant.
