Record goods transported to North East in December

The Northeast Frontier Railway moved 1,249 freight trains during December 2020, as compared to unloading of 806 rakes in December 2019, an increase of 54.96%.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) carried highest ever quantity of goods to North Eastern region during December, 2020, an official release maintained today. 

The NFR transported 1249 freight carrying trains during December, 2020 and unloaded them in different goods sheds in its jurisdiction as compared to unloading of 806 rakes in December, 2019, which is an increase of 54.96%, it said. 

More than 8096 inbound freight trains have been carried in NFR since beginning of the lockdown period i.e. from March 25 till December 31, 2020, added the release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda.

Goods like FCI rice, Sugar, Salt, Edible oil, POL, Food grains, Fodder, Pulses, Fertilizer, Cement, Coal, Stone chips, Iron/Steel, Potato, Onion, Sand, Gypsum, Maize, Auto, Container were transported during the period.

In December, 690 rakes of freight carrying trains were unloaded in Assam out of which 344 were loaded with essential commodities.

The number of unloading in other states were: Nagaland (31), Tripura (64) Manipur (8), Mizoram (2) and Arunachal Pradesh (4).

A total of 244 freight rakes in West Bengal and 206 freight rakes in Bihar were also unloaded during last month within the jurisdiction of NFR to meet the requirement of people of these regions, the release said.  

Improved terminal handling facility and improvement in mobility due to enhanced maintenance efforts and continuous monitoring at all level resulted in reduction in turnaround time and increased unloading, it said.

Average speed of goods carrying trains in NFR also increased, it added, while concessions/discounts offered by Indian Railways also made the freight movement ‘attractive.’
