Truck drivers to strike at Benapole

The Bangladesh Truck Covered Van, Prime Mover Transport Owners Association has called for a 72-hour strike to demand 15 points.

According to the announcement, all types of freight vehicles will not run for 72 hours from 6 am on September 21 to 6 am on September 24.

Azim Uddin Gazi, general secretary of the Benapole Transport Owners ‘Association, said the Benapole Truck Transport Owners’ Association had distributed leaflets in the Benapole port area in support of the strike.

Among the 15 demands of the association are-

The increased income tax levied on motor vehicle owners (AIT) has to be withdrawn immediately.

All drivers who drive heavy motor vehicles are required to issue heavy driver’s licenses immediately on easy terms and in exchange for government fees.

In case of renewal of driving license, harassing fitness and examination system will have to be canceled again.

Conditions of Truck and Covered Van Prime Mover Trailer in the Freight Transport Sector Government Registered Workers Unions Constitution No excuses should be imposed on the collection of all welfare funds.

The proposals or recommendations submitted to the Chittagong Port Authority by Chittagong Prime Mover Trail Workers Union Register No. 208 should be implemented immediately.

Employed road transport workers of all classes of motor vehicles should be brought under the same ration facility as the state forces.

Nominated representatives of transport agencies located in all ports and all drivers and assistants will be required to provide annual renewable biometric smart cards to facilitate harassment-free access to all ports.

No truck can be detained or sued by a transport agency by the information-based administration of illegal goods during or after loading of goods imported from all ports of the country.

Specific place should be fixed for checking vehicle documents. Vehicles cannot be checked everywhere. Police must stop all forms of harassment and torture, including bribery.

For every 50 kms, there is a need to build a truck-covered van Primemover trailer terminal on both sides of the country’s highways for safe transportation of goods.

The families of road transport workers who die in road accidents or at the hands of thieves or by law enforcement or in their custody will have to pay a one-time cash compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the state fund. Injured workers will have to pay medical expenses and livelihood allowance until they fully recover.

All government agencies and forums related to road transport need to ensure registration of Bangladesh Covered Van Truck Primemover Products Transport Owners Association Bangladesh Truck Driver Workers Federation Bangladesh Tanklery and Nurses Association and Bangladesh Tanklery Workers Federation.

If the imported goods are detained by the administration on the way due to the presence of illegal goods in the cargo truck while being transported within the country, the imported legal goods have to be handed over to the concerned transport within a maximum of 12 hours. And no case can be filed against the concerned transport agency.

Masum Patwari, president of Bangladesh Truck Covered Van, Primemover Transport Owners Association, said the government has already been informed about these demands. However, as there was no response from there, they were forced to call a work stoppage. Various steps have already been taken to implement the directive. The concerned will observe the strike on time.
