Around 3,630 export-oriented readymade garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have now been digitally mapped under a project called ‘Mapped in Bangladesh’ (MiB), funded by the Laudes Foundation and the Netherlands government. The data has been made available on the project website. It is being coordinated by BRAC, an international development organisation based in Bangladesh.
The MiB project is being implemented by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) of BRAC University. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) are the strategic partners of the project, according to Bangladeshi media reports.
The data on the website can be sorted by brands, products, certifications, export countries etc.
The aim of the initiative is to provide accurate, credible and updated RMG factory information to all industry stakeholders in a manner that enables greater efficiency, productivity, accountability and transparency.
