In a new episode that has ignited debate and brought into focus the accountability of the shipping companies for their crew, nine sailors have been exposed to barbaric conditions on a shutdown vessel with negligible food and no compensation from November 2021.
The Panama Flagged vessel “Sea Explorer,” at present at Mumbai Anchorage, had its 09 group individuals on board on 28 November and 03 December at PnV Z5 anchorage. The vessel’s proprietor, Marine Core, sold the boat to AS marine in Dubai. Afterward, it was towed to India, where AS Marine marked the Lilly Maritime manning organization contract.
At present, the boat is on anchor with the group from the two organizations. As per both Lilly and Marine Core, AS Marine should pay the wages.
The vessel is shut down from 1000 hrs from 04 February 2022 because of absence of fuel. The power outage during the night is risky to different boats as well as there lies a huge danger of impact that may cause death.
Besides, with a small measure of accessible food and clinical facilities, the resolve of the team and their families is plunging step by step. The cleanliness issue is another concern. The psychological desolation and actual torment are becoming unendurable for the individuals. Two of the group members have critical health issues and need immediate medical care.
“The entire tussle is monetarily depleting and intellectually debilitating. Seeing my dad battle for what is his and living in aggravation and danger has placed us all in a steady condition of fear. We don’t have any idea what will occur straightaway.” says the family of one of the members present onboard.
