The state government in Goa is looking at logistics as the sunrise sector, in order to support the manufacturing sector which has been on a decline recently. To promote the logistics sector and creation of warehouses, the state government also intends to amend the Goa Industrial Development Act (GID). The purpose is to allocate industrial land for warehouse development. The Goa Investment Promotion Board, through the state logistics coordination committee, has resolved to allocate around 20% of the state’s industrial land for logistics purpose. The state government is further planning to develop a multimodal logistics park under the Bharatmala Scheme of the central government.

The state government is welcoming private players to step in and develop logistics parks, in fact, talks are in progress with few logistics companies for developing logistics parks. So far, GID act used to give greater emphasis to industrial sector and only 10% of the available land was allocated to logistics services. This is where a dedicated logistics and export policy will come in to help in allocation of greater part of state’s land for logistics purpose.
