Indian Railways has suggested that, starting in April, it will provide certifications to its freight clients for the carbon reductions achieved by adopting railways as a mode of transportation. The policy is intended to provide a positive experience for freight customers, who are expected to provide the railways repeat and increased business as a result of the green initiative. Rail Green Points will be granted to freight customers who are registered on the FOIS e-RD platform for carbon savings.
The Indian Railways has previously established policy rules for allocating carbon savings points. All railway customers who lodge a freight service demand online (on the e-demand module) may be given information on the predicted reduction in carbon emissions, known as Rail Green Points. The Rail Green Points can’t be claimed for any benefit from Railways and will be reckoned on financial year basis. Once RR is generated, the saving of carbon emission will be credited to customer’s account in the form of Rail Green Points and the cumulative points will also be shown in his account on Freight Business Development portal.
