ICTT Vallarpadam recorded highest ever transhipment traffic of 1.56 lakh teus in FY.2021-22. The transhipment recorded at ICTT in FY.2020-21 was 86,761teus and it has almost doubled this year. Till recently, the terminal has operated at 50% of its container handling capacity. According to Chairperson of Cochin Port Trust, aggressive pricing has enabled the transhipment terminal achieve this feat.
During 2021-22, the Cochin Port Trust recorded a total cargo throughput of 34.55 million tonnes, an increase of 9.67 percent over 2020-21, when the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on business. The cargo throughput at Kochi port in 2021-22 was also higher than in 2019-20, a normal year that was not affected by the pandemic. Throughput of petrol, oil, and lubricants increased by 13% year on year to 21.07 million tonnes in the fiscal year recently ended. Container volumes at ICTT have surpassed 7 lakh TEUs, and are expected to increase to 7.36 lakh TEUs in 2021-22. This represents a 6.65% increase from 2020 to 2021.
