The country’s second largest car-maker, Hyundai Motors India Limited, will be exporting 1.65 lakh units of cars in 2016-17, compared to 1.67 lakh units last year.
During the commemoration of the partnership between HMIL and Chennai Port Trust, Y K Koo, Managing Director of Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) said, “We have set an export target of 1.6 to 1.65 lakh units of cars for the current year.”
Cyril C George, Chairman of Chennai Port Trust handed over a cheque of Rs 19.69 crore towards refund of wharfage charges for the year 2015-16.
Mr. Koo said, “Right from the time-Hyundai entered India, the Chennai port has been partnering with us – initially to help set up our plant by importing machinery and then, from the year 2000 onwards to export our cars. The Indian Government through its Sagar Mala project has a clear vision of optimising the movement of freight both intra coasts and inter coast to make use of the vast coastline. With over 13 major ports and well over 187 minor and intermediate ports, the potential is immense,” said Mr Koo.
