On Saturday night, a horrific fire broke out at a private container yard in Chittagong, Bangladesh, killing at least 16 people and wounding 450 more. The accident happened at the BM Container Depot in Upazilazila’s Kadamrasul neighbourhood. According to the preliminary investigation into the incident, the container depot caught fire due to chemicals, revealed the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI), Nurul Alam. A tremendous explosion occurred as firefighters prepared to extinguish the fire. The flames spread significantly more after the blast.

Though the fire broke out at around 9 PM, after several hours at 11:45 PM, a massive explosion took place. Following this, the fire spread from one container to another due to the presence of chemicals in one of the containers.
