The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) is forming clusters of traders based on the cooperative model to compete against e-commerce giants. CAIT will conduct a two-day traders’ conference later this month to strategize the roadmap of the 90-day national campaign beginning July 1, 2022. During the first phase of the campaign the target cities will be Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
According to a statement issued by CAIT: “The current retail and e-commerce trade scenario is being captured by highly monopolistic, dominating and anti-competitive practices by big corporate houses, FMCG and mobile companies, and others in different verticals. As such malpractices of e-commerce giants are causing huge damage to businesses of small traders, the business community of India has decided to retort back.” CAIT will educate and encourage traders to form clusters and pool their resources including finance, technology, and marketing. This will equip them with a substantial amount of finance to improve their purchasing power, which will help them in negotiating with producers, and procure goods at competitive prices.
