  • The decision was cleared by Bengal Cabinet on Monday
  • The state govt has allocated 51.75 acres of land for the project

Adani Enterprises has ventured into the Information Technology (IT) sector in West Bengal. In the northern outskirts of Kolkata, the group will set up a data centre in the New Town area. The decision was approved by the Bengal cabinet on Monday.

West Bengal Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee announced the project and said Adani group will set up Bengal Tech Park, a new subsidiary company to set up a hyper-scale data centre on an area of 51.75 acres inside the Bengal Silicon Valley hub in New Town.

“The state cabinet today gave the nod to the proposal by Adani Enterprises to set up a 100 per cent hyper-scale data centre at Bengal Silicon Valley in New Town, Rajarhat. The project will come up on 51.75 acres of land, which has been given on a 99-year lease,” revealed Chatterjee.

The decision comes just a month after industrialist Gautam Adani announced investment commitments worth Rs 10,000 crore in the state during his address at the Bengal Global Business Summit held in April. “Over the next decade, we expect our total investment in Bengal to exceed Rs 10,000 crore. Thereafter, as we continue to expand here, we will bring into Bengal our world-class expertise across the green energy value chain. What I am committing to bring to Bengal is the best of the Adani Group our expertise in infrastructure, our speed of execution, our experience, and our focus on building bigger and better. What I am committing to bring is the technology and scale that will help recalibrate the infrastructure in Bengal,” Mr Adani had announced after attending the business meet for the first time in Bengal.
