The foundation stone for the Express Cargo Village, located north of the Airport’s runway, was laid by Bahrain Airport Company, the operator and management body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA). This is in keeping with the Kingdom’s logistics strategy, which is outlined in its Economic Recovery Plan.

The Express Cargo Village will boost the logistics industry’s expansion while also improving the region’s competitiveness and ability to attract investment. Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 identifies logistics as a high-priority sector. It follows an announcement by the Cabinet, led by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He said, one of the Economic Recovery Plan’s main objectives is to accelerate the adoption of a strategy for logistics, and that the Express Cargo Village will increase BIA’s cargo capacity and meet growth targets for air freight and e-commerce.

He congratulated Cebarco Bahrain on being appointed as the main contractor of the Express Cargo Village. The tender includes the construction of warehouses, aircraft aprons, and outlets, along with associated finishing. He highlighted Cebarco Bahrain’s strong capabilities, wishing its team the best in carrying out the project.

The Express Cargo Village at BIA is a 25,000-square-meter advanced logistics centre that will contain buildings dedicated to serve each cargo operator in accordance with the highest international standards. It will ensure that all activities are completed swiftly and efficiently in a single area, allowing the airport to handle bigger volumes of cargo more efficiently, better meet cargo customers’ needs, and create new job possibilities. BAC had previously inked a 10-year agreement with FedEx Express, assigning 9,000 square metres to it for the operation of a 5,000 square metre warehouse and a 4,000 square metre open area, which will be handed over in the third quarter of 2023.
