The state government will work on developing five industrial corridors as Electric Vehicle (EV) and batteries manufacturing sectors along with incentives to promote use of electric vehicles. The state EV policy mentions that the government envisions to enable an environment for manufacturing of electric vehicles and batteries.
These regions include Ajmer-Kishangarh industrial area, Rajsamand-Bhilwara industrial area, Jaipur-Dausa industrial area, Khushkheda-Bhiwadi-Neemrana Investment region and Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar Industrial region.
“Currently, EV manufacturing is very dependent on imports for various EV components. However, developing an EV manufacturing, supply chain and infrastructure ecosystem will help in reducing cost associated with purchasing EVs, which will help drive EV adoption,” states the Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy 2022.
Officials said that the policy aims to enhance the vision of the state where it is trying to create a globally competitive automobile manufacturing ecosystem with and to support all stakeholders.
“The Rajasthan Electric Vehicle Policy has been implemented in the state since September 1, 2022, and the primary focus is to encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles. The state is already giving financial assistance with 100% reimbursement on SGST along with specific rebates for different categories of vehicles. But along with this, work will also be done to make sure that there is an ecosystem of electric vehicles in the region. For this, the industrial corridors will be developed over the next few years,” said Kanhaiya Lal Swami, commissioner, state transport department.
In the financial year 2021-2022, Rs 13 crores was given as reimbursement to those purchasing electric vehicles in the state. In 2022-23, Rs 18 crores was paid till August and Rs 16 crores has been given till date from September 1 onwards, when the EV policy was implemented.
To promote the manufacturing of electric vehicles in Rajasthan, the state government has also planned several subsidies in electricity duty, land tax, market fee, stamp duty and land conversion charges.
