The Adani Group has approached the Uttar Pradesh government for 700 acres near the Noida international airport to set up an industrial and warehousing complex.

Vikram Jaisinghani, MD and CEO of Adani Logistics, wrote to the infrastructure and industrial development department, proposing a Rs 5,500-crore investment that could generate 21,000 direct and 42,000 indirect jobs.

According to the letter, the group would deposit 50% of the land value upfront so that it could be acquired without any hurdle. Calling itself a “super mega plus” investor, the group sought land under the “phase 2 master plan” of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). In the master plan, YEIDA has proposed a logistics park at Tappal Bajna.

“For the rapid development of the state of UP, NCR serves as the nerve centre. Noida and Greater Noida shall be the fulcrum of the NCR growth story. The development of the upcoming Jewar airport shall further add impetus to this growth. We propose to develop this infrastructure as a part of the overall commitment of Adani Group in the logistics sector in the state of UP,” the letter by Jaisinghani read.

Sources in YEIDA said it received the letter from Lucknow this week. The offer comes just months before the UP government is slated to hold its mega investor summit and at a time when chief minister Yogi Adiryanath is in Mumbai to discuss investment proposals with India’s top industry barons.

In another letter to the UP government – this one from Adani Group chairperson Gautam Adani himself – the company sought 250 acres off the Yamuna Expressway to set up a skill development centre. “This centre will be set up in partnership with leading skill institutes globally and will have state-of-the-art facilities and labs. A thrust area of the centre will be the ‘train the trainers academy’…to develop a large pool of faculty for the centre and for other skill training facilities in UP and pan India,” the letter read.

Officials said they were analysing both proposals.
