How was Docker Vision conceptualised?

In 2021, the Indian government released the Maritime Vision Document 2030, outlining a blueprint for the sector’s development over the next decade. One of the key priorities identified was the need for digital-led smart ports and system-driven port performance monitoring, in order to enhance ease of doing business and improve operational efficiency.

The Green Port policy also mandates that ports must reduce carbon emissions per ton of cargo handled by 30% by 2030. This makes it crucial for the Indian ports sector to adopt sustainable practices and become a safe, sustainable, and green sector.

In view of above and considering the fact that at present only 4% of the container terminals are automated, we could sense the huge potential in developing automation solution for the container terminals .

And thus, Docker Vision was established, in 2021.

Through stakeholder interviews and brainstorming sessions, we discovered that automation of landside operations was a viable solution. This led us to develop dOCR, an AI-powered Gate OCR for terminal gate automation and Rail OCR for wagon number identification. By identifying containers in real-time, dOCR reduces long queues of trucks at the terminal gate, thereby reducing its carbon footprint. This makes the facility safer, greener, and more productive.
