India’s largest integrated supply chain and logistics solution provider, TCI Group, today organized its ‘Safe Safar – Har Safar – ESG Safar’ campaign at CONCOR ICD, Tuglakabad, New Delhi. This marks 4 years of TCI’s safety awareness initiative Safe Safar programme. The event was graced by the presence of senior management and dignitaries from TCI Group & TCI Concor.
This was an excellent educational programme for the Truck, Trailer and other logistics equipment drivers by ‘TCI Safe Safar’. The programme’s main attraction was a series of educational skits performed in the style of “Nukkad Natak”. These Nukkad Nataks were staged on a specially fabricated Eco-friendly truck. Through 5 humorous and entertaining performances, the Safe Safar Nukkad Nataks were able to drive home the need of observing road safety protocols. Use of relevant movie instances and characters made the programme more catchy and relatable. Popular songs and simple language further helped spread the message easily.
More than 60 drivers participated and learned about the environment and sustainability. One of the Nataks was also about environmental harms caused by single use plastic. The drivers were urged to give up and shift to cloth / jute bags.
In addition, all present drivers, workers and invitees took the Safe Safar pledge on Health & Safety while driving, with ‘Making India’s Road Safer and Greener’ being the main motto.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr RajKiran Kanagala from TCIL, said, “Logistics as an activity happens on ground. We sincerely thank CONCOR for allowing us to organize the programme in their premises. Safety should be the utmost priority of every organization, and with the help of such events, we aim at strengthening the safety mission for drivers across the country.”
A new feature about ‘ESG’ added to the messaging is to sensitize the transport fraternity about climate change & immediate action points like – avoiding the use of plastic, switching to alternative sources of energy, insurance etc. Inclusivity of drivers and respect for driving as a profession was the central talking point. The message through such an awareness programme will leave a deep impact on drivers and will definitely help them follow road safety norms.
More than being a road safety awareness programme, the main objective of the TCI’s Safe Safar programme is to uplift the status of a driver, the one who keeps the country and the world moving. The unique use of this street play with actors communicating in local language, wearing colorful dresses, encouraging driver participation has made its mark with a reach of 1 million+ drivers, who have been made aware of safety, health, and environment aspects.
Over the course of TCI Safe Safar’s journey, many corporates and associations have continued to support this initiative, also granting letters of appreciation & accolades like:
- James Tye Award at the International Safety Awards by British Safety Council (2020)
- FICCI Road Safety Awards in the category ‘Innovative Educational Program’ in Road Safety (2019)
- ‘Innovation in Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility’ at AIMA’s 8th Innovation Practitioner’s Case Study Contest & Summit (2019)
TCI Safe Safar by Transport Corporation of India Ltd. (TCI Group) is a one-of-its-kind program running from 2019 that targets the driver community and the user industry.
