In continuing with its endeavour to retain the status of Gateway Hub of South India and after having increased the permissible draught at CCTPL container terminal to facilitate the handling of vessels with draught requirements up to 15 metres, Chennai Port has surpassed its own previous records by safely berthing CMA CGM Mozart on January 21, 2017 with a draught of 14.8 metres.

The recent dredging alongside the terminal has led to the Port achieving notable milestones. The first vessel to be berthed at the newly dredged terminal was the CMA CGM Rossini, followed by CMA CGM Bellini with a draught of 14.6 metres. The berthing of these vessels is a testament to the facilities available at the container terminals of Chennai Port and also the effort and commitment of the Port authorities to improve the marine infrastructure at the facility.

Chennai Port will continue focusing on the needs of customers to cope with international maritime trade requirements. Thus, the shipping lines would be able to deploy large container vessels, thereby reducing the operating cost, which will further benefit the Port’s exim trade.

Chennai Port also thanked the trade and shipping lines for their continued patronage.
