Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Friday launched an LPG cylinder carrier ship for Lakshadweep. The vessel, the second of a series of two ships, will be handed over to the port shipping and aviation department of Lakshadweep after commissioning.
The ship is intended to transport LPG cylinders or 60 tonnes of packed petroleum products from the mainland to the Lakshadweep islands.
The vessel was launched by GSL additional general mager Bindu Abraham in the presence of GSL chairman and managing director B K Upadhyay and other officials.
The vessel is capable of operating at speeds of 11knots with an endurance of 10 days at sea and can carry a crew of 18 personnel onboard.
This commercial vessel is designed and built under Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) Class meeting merchant shipping rules and regulations.
