The planned container terminal with a capacity to handle 2.19 million TEUs a year will cost Rs4,243.64 crore to build from scratch.
Deendayal Port Authority will invest Rs296.20 crore to deepen the access channel (Rs175.85 crore) and build a common user four lane road (Rs67.93 crore) linking the terminal.
“Since it is a prestigious project forming part of the National Infrastructure Pipeline, the concession agreement will be signed in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways,” a ministry official said.
The global port operator, owned by the Dubai government, placed the highest royalty of Rs6,500 per TEU to emerge the successful bidder for the project, in a bid that stunned the ports industry.
