ET Infra reported, this is the highest monthly container throughput yet handled by a single terminal in J N Port, surpassing the previous record of 1,90,709 TEUs set in January 2018.
BMCT also referred to as PSA Mumbai is one of the five container terminals operating at J N Port. Since starting operations in February 2018, PSA Mumbai has handled a cumulative volume of 6 million TEUs. The terminal has a capacity to handle 2.4 million TEUs.
In FY23, PSA Mumbai handled 1.714 million TEUs, clocking a growth of 37.72 percent over the 1.244 million TEUs handled in FY22. It registered the highest growth rate among the five container terminals operating at J N Port.
Currently, PSA Mumbai accounts for 35 percent of the container traffic handled at J N port and some 10 percent of India’s total container traffic.
PSA attributed its sterling performance at J N Port to the strong support from its customers through an increasing number of services to call at the terminal.
“This achievement is a testament to the terminal’s commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction. PSA Mumbai has consistently invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced technologies to continually enhance our operational efficiency and productivity,” PSA Mumbai said. PSA Mumbai is currently constructing the second phase of the terminal that will add 1 km of quay (berth) and 44 hectares of stacking yard with a capacity to handle 2.4 million TEUs.
The expansion, costing some Rs3,196 crore, will double the terminal’s capacity, enabling it to handle 4.8 million TEUs by the first quarter of 2025, helping PSA Mumbai play its part in supporting the growth of the Indian economy. The capacity expansion seeks to ensure that PSA Mumbai continues to be the terminal of choice in J N Port.
