This will be it’s second tender success in a week, as India’s second biggest private port operator pursues an ambitious expansion plan since going public in October last year.

Mumbai-listed JSW Infrastructure emerged the highest bidder by placing a royalty of Rs76 per ton when the price bids were opened on Thursday for the 6.96 million tonnes (mt) a year capacity North Cargo Berth 3 mechanisation project costing Rs356.39 crores, multiple government sources said.

JSW Infrastructure beat Orissa Stevedores Ltd, the second highest bidder with a royalty quote of Rs36 per ton, for the contract.

The Board of V O Chidambaranar Port Authority is expected to approve the highest royalty bid placed by J S W Infrastructure in the next few days.

The North Cargo Berth 3 will handle Coal/Coke, Limestone, Gypsum, Rock Phosphate and Copper concentrate. The contract involves deepening the channel in front of the berth to handle ships of up to 14.2 metres draught.

On February 9, JSW Infrastructure bid the highest royalty of Rs252 per ton to wrest a 4.5 mt capacity a year liquid cargo berth tender at Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The liquid cargo berth can handle petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL), edible oil, chemicals, molasses, and other liquid bulk commodity.
