Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has invited tenders for the development of key amenities of the Dharwad node on the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC).

The government of India intends to develop the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC), which would have an influence area spread across the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The project is being developed jointly by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and KIADB.

“The proposed industrial development at Dharwad will augment the existing industrial development and create an investment destination for various categories of industries through the provision of large-scale regional trunk infrastructure at Dharwad and tap the potential of the existing road/rail freight movement along BMIC,” the Ministry of commerce and industry has said.

Union minister for parliamentary affairs Pralhad Joshi in a tweet on X has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister for commerce and industries Piyush Goyal for ‘taking the landmark decision to propel industrial growth in Karnataka’.

According to official sources the tender includes the construction of a multi-modal logistics park (MMLP), the formation of industrial layouts, road infrastructure, UGD utility pipelines, ducts, retaining walls and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipelines among others.

The Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC) has identified two nodes – Dharwad in Karnataka and Satara in Maharashtra – which will be developed in the first phase.

The Dharwad node on the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor will be developed on an area of 6,042 acres, while the Satara node will be developed on an area of 12,355 acres.

Dharwad Industrial Area in Karnataka is being developed as a Greenfield Industrial Node as part of BMIC.

The Dharwad Node will be developed to make it globally competitive in heavy engineering, automobiles, auto and engineering ancillary, aerospace, and defence sectors. All these developments will make Hubballi-Dharwad the flag-bearer for industrial growth in Karnataka, said sources.

The Dharwad node will be developed in three phases. In the 1st phase, a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) will be developed on a turnkey basis. The firm will do the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of MMLP including operation and maintenance for 5 years.

The second and third phases include the formation of industrial layouts in three sectors and eight sectors respectively.
