Since 2010, DSC Dredge has been supplying cutter suction dredgers to private companies in Bangladesh. This is the first public sector contract awarded to DSC Dredge for supplying the dredgers to BIWTA. The 24” dredges will be powered by Caterpillar 3516 and C32 marine diesel engines and will have a digging depth capability of 17 m below the water surface. Shipments of components are scheduled to start this summer with completion in the spring of 2025.

Bangladesh has approximately 24,000 km of rivers, streams, and canals but only 5,968 km are navigable during the monsoon period and only 3,865 km during the dry period. The new equipment will be used to dredge the waterways, which is a priority of the Government.
