Unreliable liner schedules are causing congestion at JNPA as volumes of exim containers build up at the largest container port in India. Truckers moving containers into the port have noted unusually longer delays in pick and drop of cargo. The congestion is especially concerning at APM Terminals’ Gateway Terminals India (GTI) and DP World’s Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSiCT) in the Nhava Sheva Port. An average delay of 6 to 8 hours has been reported for every import/export and empty container being brought in or out of the port, especially at NSICT and GTI terminals. Container freight station (CFS) owners in Nhava Sheva have also complained about their inability to clear cargo from the dock, which they noted has significant cost implications for cargo owners.
