Following the management takeover by Swan Energy Ltd, Pipavav Shipyard, India’s largest ship manufacturer by capacity, is set to restart operations. The port is said to be in advanced talks with global shipping lines for manufacturing eco-friendly bulk carriers. Carsten Schumacher, a former executive from the Damen Shipyards Group based in the Netherlands, has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer at the shipyard. Hazel Infra Ltd, a SPV 74% owned by Swan Energy Ltd and 26% by Hazel Mercantile Ltd, has acquired the bankrupt shipyard. The new management is initiating an array of activities to make the shipyard up and running. The dredging work in the channel of the yard has been completed and the gates to the dry dock can be opened now.
