This will be the first major port to be built in more than 20 years of time and will be the second major port to be operated as a company, following the Kamarajar Port. The project is being planned on an offshore location, about 4-6kms inside the sea by conducting land reclamation. Material for this purpose is being sourced from sand pits off the coast of Daman. The port is being jointly developed by JNPA and Maharashtra Maritime Board, following the landlord model. The port project is crucial for expanding the capacity of JNPA, considering its limitations in expanding.
