Flooded roads and submerged tracks have disconnected the Chittagong city from rest of the country. The imported and export cargo has been stockpiling in different Storage Depot including the Chattogram Port yard. Shortage of vehicles is negatively impacting the movement of cargo causing congestion and the situation will only worsen if the logistics doesn’t open up soon.

Omar Faruque, Secretary, Chittagong Port Authority said, container handling from ships remains unaffected currently, but expressed concern about potential container congestion if the situation continues, as cargo handling at the outer anchorage has already been disrupted by rough weather.

Private Inland Container Depots (ICDs), which handle 90 per cent of the country’s exports, are also feeling the strain. The Bangladesh railway authorities said that the train service will remain suspended till the railway tracks in the flood affected areas are fully free from flood water.
