Ships calling at JNPA will be supplied with clean shore power by 2030, a major initiative to curb maritime pollution. A pilot project valued at Rs.100 Cr is in progress for the purpose and will eliminate the use of diesel for powering vessels. As of 2020, not more than 20 ports worldwide have shore power facilities, including Germany, Sweden, Finland, the United States, and other nations. Many ports have signed declarations to deploy shore power by 2028, including ports in Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America.

JNPA has inked a MoU with Gateway Terminals India for awarding tenders for operation and maintenance of shore power at the wharf area of Gateway Terminals. The development is in line with the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines – 2023. Following the success of the pilot project similar shore power facilities will be extended to other terminals as well.
