Colombo Port reports robust performance

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) reports that the Port of Colombo has marked impressive growth in containers handled, underscoring a strong improvement in operational efficiencies, in the year 2024.

The port of Colombo moved 1,541,034 TEUs in 2024, marking a substantial increase of 16% year-on-year. South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) handled 1,281,642 TEUs this year, an increase of 10.4% from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) saw a slighter 5% increase reporting 2,200,956 TEUs.

Overall, Colombo Port has achieved a cumulative growth of 9.6%, reaching 5,023,632 TEUs in 2024, up from 4,584,843 TEUs in the same months in 2023. If this trend continues, 2024 is poised to surpass previous records, further cementing Colombo’s role as a crucial player in the region, according to SLPA’s announcement.
