Food Corporation of India (FCI) has undertaken an ambitious programme of modernising its supply chain management system through a comprehensive digital transformation.

Part of its 100-day programme, FCI will carry out a comprehensive transformation of its existing ‘Depot Online System’ to a microservices-based integrated supply chain management system called `Anna Darpan.’

The state-of-the-art system is being designed to streamline the entire food supply chain operations and services from Mandis to Mills and Depots (both owned and hired), as also link divisional, regional, zonal, and headquarters operations.

Coforge Limited as the system integrator (SI) has been entrusted with conceptualising and implementing the project on a turnkey basis, which also include provisioning of a cloud environment for hosting the system.

To be constructed on a service mesh architecture, the application will facilitate seamless communication among microservices, as also API-based integration with FCI’s external links.

By streamlining processes `Anna Darpan’ will help optimise performance across the supply chain while an interactive and user-friendly UI design will enhance user interaction.

FCI management can also leverage data analytics to support strategic and operational decisions.

On the operations side, FCI has been modernising its storage and transportation infrastructure by developing modern silos to enhance storage system and capacity.

So far, FCI has developed six state-of-the-art silos with private partnership, on a Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) model in Bihar, Punjab and Gujarat.

These silos, with 50,000 tonne capacity each brings 1.5 lakh additional storage capacity to FCI.

FCI is also installing modern IP-based video surveillance system with high-resolution imaging, improved scalability, and remote access across its 561 depots to enhance monitoring.
