The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that movement towards linking Iran’s Chabahar Port in Iran with INSTC would be possible in the not-too-distant future. INSTC – International North-South Transport Corridor is a network of roads, railways, and sea routes that connects India, Russia, Iran, and other countries.
During his visit to Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his meeting with Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the recently elected president of Iran, with a key discussion on regional connectivity.
The two leaders focused on the strategic importance of the Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), which are vital to enhancing trade and economic partnerships across the region. Both leaders highlighted that these projects not only strengthen bilateral ties but also improve access to Central Asia and support the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
India and Iran share longstanding civilizational ties. Iran is situated in India’s extended neighborhood, and the two countries have significant overlap in their economic and security space. India and Iran are important trade partners.
