A project to introduce remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for undersea exploration is about to be released by the Kerala Maritime Board. The public-private partnership (PPP) approach will be used to carry out the project.
A senior board official stated that Hie Capital Technologies, a Kerala-based maritime technology consultant, would provide the suggested unmanned ROVs as well as the required personnel and application knowledge.
The ROV project will be established with the help of the bathymetric survey. The ROVs will be equipped with equipment and materials imported from the US and Europe.
As of right now, Kerala has no establishments that train ROV operators. In order to hire students from TKM Engineering College Kollam and give them the required training, the board intends to develop a course for ROV operators and technical staff.
