As instructed by Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has taken proactive steps to address the concerns regarding the Empty Containers Yard by putting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place to streamline operations at the Empty Container Yards. In order to prevent transporters from waiting at empty container yards, it instructs shipping lines to receive payment and send it to those yards.

JNPA has designated an area of approximately 3.51 Ha for the storage of empty containers in the yard in an effort to allay worries about the Empty Container Yard. On September 28, 2024, the operator selection tender was already released.

Additionally, a 26.20-hectare plot of land has been found for the development of another empty container yard. Soon, the operator’s selection tender will be released. As a result, the trade will save a significant amount of money and time by having access to about 30 Ha of land for the storage and stacking of empty containers at these JNPA Empty Container Yards.

These projects will greatly aid in reducing the Empty Containers Yard’s space constraints, simplifying container operations, and maximizing port efficiency.
