The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has awarded KMEW a contract worth ₹147.43 crore for the upkeep of fairways along two crucial sections of National Waterway-1 on the Ganga. The Sultanganj-Mahendrapur (74 km) and Mahendrapur-Barh (71 km) portions are covered by the three-year contract, which was announced on October 28 and is renewable for two more years.

With this grant, KMEW has now signed three contracts with IWAI, increasing the total length of regulated waterways to 365 kilometers. To ensure safe navigation throughout the project, KMEW will send out three cutter suction dredgers and three work boats. The agreement is a component of the Jal Marg Vikas Project, which is supported by the World Bank and intends to improve India’s inland canal infrastructure.
