To develop the nation’s marine industry, the government of Bangladesh has started to create a “National Maritime Port Strategy.”
During a review meeting at the Ministry of Shipping, Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Ministry of Shipping, provided information on the issue.
Sakhawat Hossain talked about the development of several departments and agencies within his ministry, such as the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Land Port Authority, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Chattogram Port Authority, Mongla Port Authority, and Payra Port Authority.
With the use of a Maritime Single Window, the new “National Maritime Port Strategy” seeks to create a modern, integrated, and strong port infrastructure that unifies all port-related services on one platform. In a short amount of time, this platform will offer merchants effective and hassle-free service.
A new era for the nation’s marine industry is what Sakhawat Hossain hopes the National marine Port Strategy will bring about.
In order to speed up the strategy’s construction, he ordered the creation of a committee and asked it to deliver a draft as soon as feasible.
In order to streamline the operations of seaports and inland river ports, the adviser also emphasized the necessity of aligning the nation’s land ports with this approach.
He suggested that stakeholders and experts be included in the strategy’s development and expressed hope that it would result in revolutionary improvements for the maritime industry.
Sakhawat Hossain also recommended contacting the International Maritime Organization for technical support if necessary.
