A new liner service between India’s major commercial ports of Mundra and Nhava Sheva and the Arabian Gulf ports of Dammam in Saudi Arabia and Umm Qasr in Iraq has been introduced by the Folk Maritime Services Company of Saudi Arabia.
Using the 1,800TEU ship Asterios, the India Gulf Service made its first call to Dammam on Wednesday, October 30. The ship will travel to Umm Qasr after importing goods from India.
By December, the program, which will start off as a 14-day service, will progressively increase to a weekly call.
The India Red Sea service was introduced in September, and the new route comes after that. According to Folk Maritime, these routes help to improve trade relations with India by making it easier to carry petrochemicals, consumer goods, and other necessities.
According to a previous statement by Folk Maritime, Mundra, Gujarat’s main commercial and cargo port, is a significant economic entry point that provides multimodal access to India’s northern hinterland. In the meanwhile, a large amount of India’s containerized trade is handled by the Nhava Sheva port, which is situated in the Maharashtra state east of Mumbai. It serves as the hub for long-haul calls to and from the developing market economy.
