The turmoil in Bangladesh, India’s neighbor, is helping the country’s clothing export industry. Compared to a 15% decrease in the same period last year, India’s garment exports have increased by 8.5% in the first half of the current fiscal year. India’s garment exports increased 17.3% year over year in September alone.

Bangladesh, a global center for textile supply, has seen a decline in exports as a result of the disruption brought on by the political unrest there. Compared to $3.82 billion in 2023, Bangladesh’s garment shipments to the US, its top export market, decreased 11% to $3.40 billion in January–June 2024. This disruption appears to be helping Indian exporters.
