According to Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, India will soon become the global leader in the maritime industry because it is expanding its port capacity to handle cargo and creating a strong ecosystem for shipping development and maintenance.
Speaking at the Kamarajar Port Trust’s silver jubilee celebrations in Chennai, Sonowal predicted that India would rank in the top ten maritime countries globally by 2047. According to him, the port’s promotion of effective coal handling and potential for future growth was a major milestone in decongesting Chennai Port. According to the minister, building a 3 MTPA IOCL jetty will increase its capacity even more.
He said that the installation of a 1 MLD seawater desalination plant at the port, which will cost Rs 32 crore, will help to address the needs of the coastal community as well as the port for drinking water and other household uses. According to Sonowal, the shipping ministry’s timely execution of infrastructure projects has accelerated the completion of flagship programs. When development projects are launched, quality has also been a priority. At a cost of Rs 545 crore, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways laid the cornerstone for the construction of a capital dredging and integrated command and control center at the Kamarajar port.
