A bulkhead capsized in the Karnaphuli River near the Chattogram port channel following a collision with a container vessel. The bulkhead, Anima Saima 2, collided with outbound container vessel MSC Giannina II. The collision occurred between Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) and Gupta Bend point.

Three crew members from the sunken bulkhead were rescued by the Chattogram Port Authority’s (CPA) tugboat Kandari-1. The wreckage has been located and marked with a red buoy, and a speedboat is stationed at the site to indicate its position and facilitate navigation, the CPA said.

Despite the incident, vessel movements in the port channel continued as usual, with 12 ships entering and exiting on schedule since this morning. CPA has issued a notice to mariners, urging caution while navigating near the wreck site. The authority has also directed the MSC Giannina II to anchor at the outer harbor and prepare a statement detailing the incident.
