The new pipeline will have a capacity of 17.5mn t/yr (350,000 b/d) at an estimated cost of about 90.28bn rupees ($1.19bn), which will also include an expanded crude tank farm at Mundra.

IOC already transports crude from Mundra in Gujarat state to its inland 300,000 b/d Panipat refinery in Haryana via a 1,194km pipeline. This system consists of a 74km long pipeline from Mundra to Churwa, which connects to the Kandla-Panipat section of the Kandla-Bhatinda pipeline.

“The project will meet the enhanced crude oil requirement arising out of capacity expansion of Panipat refinery from 15mn t/yr to 25mn t/yr (500,000 b/d). The project is expected to be completed within 36 months and will be synchronised with the commissioning of the Panipat refinery expansion project,” IOC said.
